GIS, MY PASSION
As many of my coworkers and classmates, Geographic Information Systems has become my passion through the last years. I started working with GIS during my first job at PRONACA. It was focused on geomarketing. Most of my work was to locate customers, planning the best delivery routes, getting information to analyze potential places for new markets, among others. I started to love working with spatial distribution there.
Another job where I applied GIS was at MAGAP, which is the department of agriculture here in Ecuador. The work was addressed to get primary georeferenced data from the farmers in the province of Imbabura. This information was related to land possession, cultivated area, main crops, average yields, main plant plagues, prices of products, and so on. It was quite interesting, I have to say.
Right now, I am teaching GIS to university students of careers such as Agricultural Engineering and Agricultural Business, as well as working with research projects related to soil erosion and conservation, as part of my responsibilities at the University. After these last experiences, I became aware that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life, combining these two things I really enjoy: teaching and my passion for GIS.
